In 2022, Colorado football won one game. Last season, in their first year under head coach Deion Sanders, Colorado started his inaugural campaign 4-2 before ending the season on a six-game slide. With many college football pundits, fans, and devotees questioning the ability of Sanders to turn around a Colorado Buffaloes football program with just three winning seasons since 2005, the frontman, alongside his son and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, are 6-2 after the first weekend of November. On Tuesday, with the reveal of the season’s first College Football Playoff poll, the Colorado Buffaloes debuted at the 20th spot, just the third time in program history the team has made the CFP standings.
After stumbling against a hit-or-miss Nebraska Cornhuskers earlier in the year, Colorado football has won five of their last six games and will finish the season against four teams with a combined record of 15-19. Nevertheless, with Colorado’s outlook pointing up and the now Big 12 squad eyeing a double-digit winning season, Buffaloes fans are putting the preseason doubters on blast following the revelation of the CFP rankings.
Colorado Football Fans Erupt With CFP Placement
According to the Colorado Buffaloes on X:
@CUBuffsFootball checks in at No. 20 in the first #CFBPlayoff rankings of the season.
Winners of two straight and five of their last six, Colorado football, has flown up the AP rankings since mid-September, clocking in at No. 21 in their latest rendition of the standings. On Tuesday, the College Football Playoff Committee agreed, putting the Colorado Buffaloes at the No. 20 spot in the first rendition of their rankings. This season, the CFP will expand to a 12-team postseason field, opening the door for a two-loss conference winner to have a chance at a national title. At 6-2, Colorado could make the Big 12 championship and earn an automatic postseason bid with a victory.
Like last season, Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders have leaned on superstar quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The younger Sanders continues to pace a Heisman-worthy season, totaling 2,591 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions through eight games. However, two-way All-American Travis Hunter remains the program’s most electric player. He has 757 receiving yards and two interceptions this season. With Colorado debuting in the CFP poll on Tuesday, their fans did not mince words when chirping at individuals who doubted the team this season:

Can’t believe a 4-8 team with a QB who’s skill set isn’t FBS-level worthy just got put in the top 20 of the CFP rankings🙄 https://t.co/A6CpHK0RwX

coach prime has made colorado a legitimate threat
— Elias (@7saile_) November 6, 2024
That alone has validated hiring Coach Prime. Has CU football back on the map in front of the eyes of the nation. Hell of a job by the U, staff, & players 👏👏

Colorado is 20th in the CFP rankings and that's fantastic but the only thing that really matters this week is beating Texas Tech. Focus. One game at a time. 🦬
— GoBuffs (@GoBuffs3) November 6, 2024
Colorado comes in at No. 20 in the first CFP rankings. First time in the CFP rankings since Dec. 13, 2020. Highest CFP ranking for the #cubuffs since they were 10th in the final rankings in 2016.
