Colorado Football is under one of the biggest experiments in the history of College Football. Rather than depending on high school recruiting and year-to-year improvement in team chemistry and repetitions, Deion Sanders and Colorado have decided to tackle each season with its own complete roster overhaul through the transfer portal.
Colorado’s Ranking in the Transfer Portal and High School Recruiting
Colorado is ranked eighth in the nation in the transfer portal. It has 42 players committed to the team, which is much more than any other team in the nation. The next closest team is Louisville, with 31 commits. At the same time, Colorado has had 41 players transfer out of the program, leading the nation, which is crazy considering that most of the time, the high number of transfers is due to a coach leaving.
At the same time, Colorado is ranked 81st in the nation in high school recruiting, with only 13 commits. This puts them behind teams like Charlotte, Western Michigan, and even rival Colorado State. Only two P4 teams (Oregon State and Arizona) are ranked below them in the recruiting rankings.
Betters Like Colorado’s Chances
To be clear, very few people are taking Colorado to win the National Championship seriously. In other words, I’d be shocked if anyone had put more than $50 on the Buffaloes, who were winning it all.
When the odds came out on Bet MGM a few weeks ago, they were at +20,000, or in other words, if one were to put down 100, they would make $20,000 if it actually happened. Most of the time, nobody really takes these odds because it is basically giving away money.
However, with such a high potential payout and with the unique approach that Colorado is taking, many fans have started to take the +20,000 odds to the point where Bet MGM has had to change their odds to +12,500. While still a very good payout, the idea of getting nearly 40% less on an unlikely scenario may turn better away.
Colorado Has the Pieces to be Special
Again, I don’t want to suggest in any way that anyone should go out and bet on the Buffaloes or that I believe Colorado has any legitimate chance of even making it to the College Football Playoff, but there are certain pieces there that make things interesting.
- Deion Sanders lives off of momentum. If things are going well, it seems to really motivate Sanders. This energy may spread to the team if the team pulls off an upset early in the season.
- CU has one of the best quarterbacks, receivers/corners, and other players rated four and five stars. By raw talent, this is a Top 25 team.
- Their schedule could allow them to sneak into the Playoff. Being in the Big 12, they could finish 9-3, win the Big 12 Championship, and have a top-four seed in the Playoff. From there, things could get weird, especially with a first-round bye.
Colorado has the 4th most placed bets to win the College Football Playoffs on BetMGM🦬
