Top 3 College Football Running Backs
College football’s newest season is growing closer and football players of all positions are being carefully observed, critiqued, and ranked.
ESPN ranked their top 10 running backs for the 2024. Each player on the list was chosen for either their talent, previous season performance, or their potential.
In 1st place, ESPN voted Ollie Gordon II from Oklahoma State. Based on his 2023 stats, its no wonder why he was voted for the number 1 spot. He had a total of 1,732 yards rushing, 330 receiving yards, 39 receptions, 21 rushing touchdowns, and 1 receiving touchdown.
At the end of the 2023 year, Gordon announced his return to football making for exciting news. His announcement brought attention to why he has been ranked as number 1. From Gordon’s freshman year to now, he has demonstrated an elite speed, strength, and power that gets him much deserved attention.
According to ESPN reporter Dave Wilson, Gordon’s return has Oklahoma State eyeing a playoff berth and Gordon aiming for a Heisman Trophy Ceremony.
In 2nd place of the ranking, TreVeyon Henderson of Ohio State.
TreVeyon Henderson was not at his 100% a year ago due to injuries, surgery, and the recovery process. But, Henderson still managed to lead Ohio State with 926 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns all within just 10 games. Henderson’s strongest suits involve his ability to accelerate through the hole, the ability to make defenders miss, and his swift breakaway speed.
Between his record from last season and his strongest attributes, he may be giving Ollie Gordon II a run for his money.
In 3rd place of the ranking, Quinshon Judkins of Ole Miss.
Judson has a reputable record starting with his freshman year where he earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors along with being a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award. Not only did he achieve these accomplishments, he also was a first-team all-league selection. He continued with a solid sophomore season with 15 rushing touchdowns.
Additionally, Judson has 545 carries in his first 2 seasons. The SEC would not be the same without Judson and his junior year only holds promise for Judson’s performance and raising those stats back up.
The rest of the top 10 college running backs is as follows starting with Omarion Hampton, Tahj Brooks, Ashton Jeanty, Donovan Edwards, Trevor Etienne, Jadyn Ott, and Devin Neal.
