Colin Kaepernick’s long-time girlfriend, Nessa Diab, recently took to social media to defend the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback from historians. This week, Kaepernick added a story to his Instagram account of a stat provided by ESPN showing Kaepernick owns the record for the highest QBR rating heading into a Super Bowl.
Nessa Diab defends Kaepernick from “revisionist historians”
Diab shared Kaepernick’s screenshot on her Instagram story. Diab wrote that “revisionist historians” are trying to scrape Kaepernick from NFL lore.
“The only time I’ll post anything football related. To remind you, [Kaepernick] is still blackballed. Still holds records. I know the revisionist historians like to erase his accomplishments but you can’t,” Diab wrote.
Colin Kaepernick played well for a couple of seasons in the NFL
Kaepernick led the 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII when he had a fantastic 2012 postseason under then-head coach Jim Harbaugh. But they would come short of the NFL’s ultimate accomplishment. Kaepernick and the 49ers lost the Super Bowl to the Baltimore Ravens by three points.
Kaepernick would have two more solid seasons as a quarterback for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Following Harbaugh’s departure to Michigan, Kaepernick’s career took a nose dive until he was essentially kicked out of the league for his protests of police brutality.
Many people who dislike Kaepernick for his political beliefs are willing to discredit his play on the field. Kaepernick was a good quarterback. However, he was not elite.
Diab’s claim that historians are trying to erase Kaepernick’s history is amusing, considering the former quarterback’s legacy of social justice is now standard high school curriculum.
