On Saturday, after over 48 hours of waiting, former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders finally heard his named called by the Cleveland Browns in the 2025 NFL Draft. Instead of being a top-five pick in the first round like he and many others predicted, Sanders slid all the way to the fifth round, and was not even the first quarterback that Cleveland drafted.
Even before he was selected, there were rumors that he had received a prank phone call on Day Two from someone claiming to be a representative from an NFL team, telling him that he would have to wait just a little bit longer.
On top of being a cruel prank, the concerning thing about the call was that Sanders had a new phone specifically for the draft. The only people who had the number for it were the 32 NFL teams.
Jax Ulbrich, the Son of Atlanta Falcons Defensive Coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, Admits to Prank Calling Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders

After the draft, the NFL announced that it was launching an investigation into the prank call that Sanders received. Apparently, other NFL prospects were victims of a similar cruel prank.
On Sunday, Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of Jeff Ulbrich, posted on his Instagram that he was the one who set up the prank on the new Browns quarterback and that he was sorry for his actions:

As one can see, Ulbrich has also reached out to Sanders via phone (apparently he has his number) and apologized.
The Atlanta Falcons released the following statement regarding this development:
“Earlier in the week, Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, unintentionally came across the draft contact phone number for Shedeur Sanders off an open iPad while visiting his parent’s home and wrote the number down to later conduct a prank call. Jeff Ulbrich was unaware of the data exposure or any facets of the prank and was made aware of the above only after the fact.
“The Atlanta Falcons do not condone this behavior and send our sincere apologies to Shedeur Sanders and his family, who we have been in contact with to apologize to, as well as facilitate an apology directly from Jax to the Sanders family.
“We have also been in contact with the NFL and will continue to cooperate fully with any inquiries we may receive from the NFL league office.
“We are thoroughly reviewing all protocols, and updating if necessary, to help prevent an incident like this from happening again.”
Atlanta will not discipline their new defensive coordinator, who was the interim head coach of the New York Jets last season, because he was not aware of his son’s actions until after the fact.
