Cleveland Browns star offensive player Nick Chubb suffered a significant knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season, ending his season immediately and throwing his NFL future into doubt. The Browns and Chubb have decided to rework the last year of his contract, which should benefit both sides.

Running back Nick Chubb has been the face of the franchise since the Browns drafted him in 2018. In his six-year career, he has over 6,500 rush yards and 48 touchdowns.
His 2023 campaign was cut short by a devastating knee injury he suffered in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns and Chubb decided to rework his deal to allow him to have a comeback season heading into 2024.
Cleveland Browns Star Running Back

According to CBS Sports, Chubb’s base salary was $11.775 million, and his salary cap charge for the upcoming season was hefty, at $15.8 million. This cast some doubt as to whether Cleveland would keep him on the roster, given his current status.
He carried a $4 million dead cap charge, so cutting him would’ve created $11.8 million in salary cap space. The two sides were able to come to this agreement, which keeps Chubb’s tenure in Cleveland going for at least a bit longer.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Browns and Chubb have agreed on a reworked 2024 contract that lowers his base salary of $11.775 million.
Specific incentives are in place for Chubb to earn the type of cash that would resemble his original contract.

Chubb now has a chance to come back from injury, without the risk of wondering what team it may be with. His 2024 season will determine his future contract after his seventh season in the NFL.
