The 2023 Cleveland Browns season has certainly been one to remember. Most Browns fans likely did not have veteran QB Joe Flacco leading them to a playoff berth on their bingo card to start the year. Yet, here the Browns are with an 11-5 record.
Part of the reason why this is so notable is that many people thought Flacco was too old and washed up to perform for a contender. Flacco is well aware of how old he is compared to most players in the NFL. Now, he is having a little fun with it.
Joe Flacco Makes Hilarious Comment About His Age
Earlier today, one reporter asked Flacco about his age compared to his teammates. For reference, Flacco is 38 years old. The average age of a Cleveland Browns player is 26 years old. Here is what Flacco had to say on the subject:
“If I messed up in high school, I could be some of these kids’ dads.” -Joe Flacco
The dead giveaway that Flacco is on the older side is that he called the other players “kids.” However, for those of us who are old enough to remember when Flacco first made his NFL debut, it is a chilling reminder of just how long it has been. Flacco was drafted in 2008 and won a Super Bowl in the 2012-13 season. Now, he has nearly completed his 16th season in the NFL.
Joe Flacco’s Incredible Comeback
Flacco’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Right now, he is one of the top candidates to win Comeback Player of the Year. It only took the Browns four quarterbacks to realize what they had with Flacco. Cleveland had to have Deshaun Watson suffer a season-ending injury plus see what P.J. Walker and Dorian Thompson-Robinson had to offer before settling on Flacco.
So, what has Joe Flacco done since he took the starting job? Well, in five games, he has 1,616 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. The Browns are also 4-1 in these games.
Now, the Cleveland Browns have settled into the fifth seed in the AFC. They anxiously await to see who will win the AFC South, as that team will be their wild card opponent. While the Browns are not the favorites to come out of the AFC, Flacco giving them stability at the quarterback position has allowed Cleveland to be a legitimate dark horse.
