The Cleveland Browns made a shocking move on Tuesday, placing one of their rookies on the injured reserve. Per Jake Trotter of ESPN, the Browns have placed rookie corner Cam Mitchell on the IR, effectively making him unavailable for the team’s next four games.

Cleveland Browns CB Cam Mitchell: Rotational cornerback During Rookie Campaign
Cleveland selected Mitchell in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft. He played collegiately at Northwestern, where he tallied 18 passes defended, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions in four seasons.
Cam Mitchell had played in all eight games for the Cleveland Browns this season, accumulating nine tackles and one pass defended. The 22-year-old played 25% of the defensive snaps while playing more than half the snaps on special teams.
Mitchell operated as the backup corner to Greg Newsome II. He played both on the outside and as the nickelback.
Cleveland Browns: Corners Depth Chart
Cam Mitchell is not the only CB on the roster dealing with injury. Teammate Greg Newsome II did not play in the Browns’ 27-0 shutout win over the Arizona Cardinals. He left the previous game with a groin injury but has avoided the IR thus far.
Denzel Ward Jr. and Martin Emerson remain the mainstays in the Cleveland secondary. The Browns would likely turn to Mike Ford and Khalef Hailassie with Mitchell out and Newsome ailing. Hailassie is a fellow rookie but has played 12 defensive snaps this season. Meanwhile, Ford is a six-year NFL vet. He has eight tackles in eight games.
