If it were up to Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett, he and Nick Chubb would still be teammates. But that’s not his call. Chubb is now an-ex Brown after parting ways with Cleveland and putting pen to paper for a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Houston Texans.
Before Chubb and the Browns split, Garrett said that he tried to take his shot at persuading Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry to retain the star running back, who’s become one of the best ever to wear the team’s colors.
“Yeah, that was part of my talks with AB a couple months ago, asking about the situation with Nick and how that’s going to work out and how we can get him back here,” Garrett said of the time back in February when he spoke with Berry (h/t Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com). “I know it means a lot to the fans, but he means a lot to us as well in the locker room.”
What Garrett said perfectly highlights how likable Chubb was not just as a player but as a teammate during his time with the Browns. In seven seasons in Cleveland, Chubb picked up a total of 6,843 rushing yards and 51 touchdowns through 85 games while earning four Pro Bowls along the way.

Even though Chubb is now playing for another team in the AFC, Garrett still wishes the best for his former teammate.
“If we play him, I hope it’s to punish him, but if seeing him on TV, just playing on Sundays or Mondays, whenever it is, I’m going to be happy for him because he’s able to play this game,” he said.
Houston and Cleveland are not scheduled to meet in the 2025 NFL regular season, but depending on how things shake out, there’s a chance the two teams will cross paths in the next playoffs.
