Indianapolis Colts: Jim Irsay’s Daughter Reveals Hilarious Plan to Honor Former Team Owner

The Indianapolis Colts are beginning a new era, with Jim Irsay’s daughters taking control of the franchise. Irsay died in his sleep in May, which is sad news that the team and their fans are still trying to process, but the Colts still have to move on, and part of that is having new owners.

On Tuesday, Irsay’s daughter, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, had a light moment while talking with reporters, as she joked about her dad. She is also now the Colts’ CEO and principal owner.

    Via Stephen Holder of ESPN:

Carlie Irsay-Gordon opened the new era of Indianapolis Colts ownership with a timely joke on Tuesday, quipping that she and her sisters considered showing up 30 minutes late to meet with reporters in honor of their late father, Jim Irsay, who famously moved to the beat of his own drum.

On a more serious note, Irsay-Gordon left zero doubts about what she wants to see from the Colts under head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard.

“Chris and Shane know that they have things they need to fix,” Shane Steichen said. “We talked about not micromanaging people but, also, we have a standard here and it hasn’t been good enough. Winning is great. But I would even take it a step further and saying we’re really committed to being the best and if we’re the best, we will win games. And I think Chris and Shane are totally capable of doing that and we’re confident that they can.”

That’s a clear message from Irsay-Gordon that could also mean short leashes for Steichen and Ballard going forward.

The Colts have not been to the NFL playoffs since the 2020 season and have won just eight games in 2024.
