Regardless of his performance in the Cleveland Browns OTAs, the bottom line for Shedeur Sanders is that he’s going to get talked about – a lot.
It’s not entirely surprising, considering the attention that followed him during his time in college with the Colorado Buffaloes and under the coaching of his Pro Football Hall of Fame dad, Deion Sanders.
All that being said, attention doesn’t mean a sure spot on the Browns’ final roster for the 2025 NFL season. It is still true that Sanders was a fifth-round pick. Moreover, he is buried on the Browns’ QB depth chart, with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel ahead of him in the pecking order.
For Fox Sports 1’s Colin Cowherd, Sanders has a good chance of not just making the final cut but getting the keys to the offense under center, in part because of Browns owner Jimmy Haslam’s “impulsive” ways.

“Shedeur Sanders has two things going for him, and don’t kid yourself, this is how the league works,” Cowherd said. “The owner of the Cleveland Browns, Jimmy Haslam, is really impulsive. He drafted Johnny Manziel over better quarterbacks. And in a quarterback room with zero star power, except for Shedeur Sanders, he’s going to get a chance. The second thing Cleveland has going for it, Shedeur has going for it, is that Cleveland’s roster is the weakest easily in the division, and the early schedule is brutal. This is a team that’s going to be boring offensively. You know what will make him not boring? Shedeur Sanders is taking snaps, win or lose.”
Sanders doesn’t want to look too far ahead amid Cleveland Browns QB battle
Sanders is aware of the discussion surrounding his outlook within the Browns quarterback room, and while he certainly wants to become a QB1, he also knows that it’s not going to happen overnight.
“Right now, I’ve got to focus on this walkthrough that’s about to be later on and practice tomorrow so I can’t mentally,” Sanders said on Tuesday, per Chris Easterling of Akron Beacon Journal. “I got to focus on one thing at a time. I can’t think about what I’m going to do for the break, where I’m going to be at. I’ve got to be where my feet are. I’m here right now and I just got to focus on coming out tomorrow, having a strong day and walkthroughs, understanding the ins and outs.”
