The Cleveland Browns came up with a massive Week 1 victory over Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. It wasn’t just any win for Cleveland too, as they took down Cincinnati in an eye-opening 24-3 blowout.

Unfortunately for Cleveland, their huge win in their season opener came at quite a cost.

Disaster struck for the Browns in the second quarter after star offensive tackle Jack Conklin suffered a scary-looking injury. The team’s medical staff came to his aid as the two-time All-Pro OT remained on the ground. Conklin had to be carted off the field, and it wasn’t long before the team ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

The good news for Cleveland is that they still managed to secure a big win despite losing one of their most offensive weapons on the squad.
After the game, head coach Kevin Stefanski provided an update on the status of Conklin. The Cleveland shot-caller did not sound optimistic at all:
“You hope, but it doesn’t look good,” Stefanski said, via Kelsey Ruso of The Athletic. “I feel absolutely awful for Jack. The person that he is, the player that he is and what he means to this team. […] He’s such a big part of what we are. We’ll hold out hope there.”
Based on Stefanski’s tone, it seems that the team is already bracing themselves for the worst. True enough, league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network revealed that this could be a season-ending injury for the 29-year-old:
“#Browns OT Jack Conklin is feared to have suffered a significant knee injury, source said. He’ll have an MRI, but there is a possibility he’s out for the season,” Rapoport wrote in his tweet.
Conklin should undergo more tests on Monday, and those should determine the significance of his injury. However, based on the limited information we have here, the Browns may need to prepare themselves for the worst-case scenario here.
Rookie Dawand Jones stepped in to replace Conklin after his injury against the Bengals, and by the looks of it, the fourth-round pick could be Cleveland’s starter for the foreseeable future.
