Nick Chubb has been a huge talking point for the Cleveland Browns this offseason. Because he carries a huge cap hit of roughly $15 million to the 2024 NFL season, he has been tipped as a potential cut candidate to save up around $11 million and have only $4 million in dead cap.
However, despite this, Cleveland Browns GM Andrew Berry has made it clear that they aren’t giving up on Chubb just yet, which is what he emphasized while speaking to the media recently at the NFL Combine.
“I understand that Nick is a popular discussion point. I meant what I said about him at the end of the season, any conversations that we have with him or his reps honestly will stay between us,” said Berry.
“I can say for myself, no one in the organization, I understand, our family, nobody wants to see that carry in Pittsburgh, be the last time he carries the ball for the Cleveland Browns. And obviously, there are things that we’ll have to work through, but that wouldn’t be our intention as well. We obviously will work to keep him on the team,” he added.
Some important updates for the Cleveland Browns
Overall, the Cleveland Browns are still in a wait-and-see mode not only for Nick Chubb but also for their quarterback, Deshaun Watson.
It can be remembered that Nick Chubb’s 2023 campaign ended prematurely when he tore his ACL and MCL in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Deshaun Watson only played six games last year because he underwent shoulder surgery.
“He’s done a great job. You guys know Nick. He works his tail off. He does everything in his power to make sure that he can recover as quickly as possible,” said Berry.
Since being selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the team, Nick Chubb has been one of the most productive players for Cleveland, amassing 6,511 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns on 1,238 carries en route to four Pro Bowl selections.
Meanwhile, Andrew Berry also shared that Deshaun Watson is expected to start throwing soon. Before injuring his shoulder, Watson passed for 2,217 yards, 14 touchdowns, and nine interceptions for the Cleveland Browns.
“Deshaun will begin throwing next month. He worked his tail off in terms of his rehab and recovery. He’s really in a good place,” said the Cleveland Browns executive.
