The Cleveland Browns won their first preseason game 21-16 against the New York Jets. While football is the ultimate team sport, this victory can be credited to one player. Fifth-round draft pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson shined in his NFL debut.
Cleveland Browns Dorian Thompson-Robinson Shines In Debut
The stat sheet doesn’t jump off the page. He finished 8-of-11 passing for 82 yards with a touchdown pass but he led a couple of scoring drives that helped the team come away with a victory. In his first drive, he led an 11-play, 88-yard touchdown drive where he showcased his arm and legs in order to keep the drive going. The block he threw on the 16-yard touchdown run has gone viral and many are praising the effort of Thompson-Robinson. This is exactly what the Browns want to see out of their fifth-round rookie.
Day 3 Quarterbacks
Any time a team takes a quarterback on day 3 of the NFL draft, it is a low-risk pick. If the player doesn’t pan out, the blowback is minimal. If he hits, the front office looks like a genius. What makes Thompson-Robinson so tantalizing is his athletic ability. We have seen players like Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen bring new layers to an offense because of their running ability. If Thompson-Robinson can continue to be a dual-threat quarterback, he should have no problem finding a place in today’s NFL.
It is only one preseason game but the Cleveland Browns have to be happy about the play of Dorian Thompson-Robinson. He will be a player to watch in future preseason games to see if this was a fluke or a sign of things to come.
