The Cleveland Browns 2024 season is over after their 1-6 start, but that doesn’t mean the team won’t add pieces at the trade deadline that can help in the next few years.
Cleveland Browns Could Be Buyers
Last week, the Browns traded wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills. Still, Cooper was not going to be in the team plans for next season since he wasn’t under contract, but that doesn’t mean the Browns won’t try to add a talented player that is under contract for the next few seasons or a young player that needs a new deal.
A year ago, the Chicago Bears were not close to winning anything, but they traded for defensive end Montez Sweat, giving up a second-round pick. The 28-year-old pass rusher came in and gave the team new life for this season.
Cleveland is in a weird spot because, just nine months ago, they were playing in a playoff game, and now they look like they will select the first overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
The Browns do have some nice pieces in the defensive end, Myles Garrett, cornerback Denzel Ward, and linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, so they aren’t in a full rebuild. If they get the right quarterback and fix some things on the offensive line and wide receiver room, they could be back to being a playoff team in 2025.
Cleveland could use a second—or third-round pick at this year’s trade deadline to add a piece that could help the team for the rest of this year and the next few seasons, just like the Bears did last year, adding Sweat.
It will be interesting to see what moves the Browns make over the next few weeks and if they decide to trade anyone else or trade for someone.
