The Cleveland Browns shook up the quarterback room two years ago when they went out and traded for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who had a very shaky past. They might be doing the same with another quarterback with a rough past this offseason.
Jameis Winston Could Be Heading To The Cleveland Browns
According to Mary Kay Cabot from Cleveland.com, the Browns are interested in signing quarterback Jameis Winston. The 30-year-old quarterback was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers first overall pick in 2015 but never lived up to the hype. He spent his first five seasons in Tampa and the last four as a starter/backup with the New Orleans Saints.
Winston and Watson Are A Lot Of Like
Winston was like Watson in college; both went to ACC schools. Winston went to Florida State, and Watson went to Clemson. Both beat Alabama schools to win a National Championship. Winston beat Auburn, and Watson beat Alabama, but Winston won a Heisman Trophy.
Like Watson, Winston has also been in trouble in his NFL career. Winson was suspended by the NFL in 2018 for touching a female Uber driver, and Watson had sexual assault allegations against him that got him suspended for 11 games in 2022.
Winston has shown a lot of maturity in the past six years and has a lot of respect from players and coaches around the league.
Browns Having Intrest In Winston Is Shocking
I never would have expected Winston’s name to be a free-agent target for the Browns, but they need a veteran backup quarterback. I know everyone loved Joe Flacco last year, but Winston is nine years younger than him and is a little more similar to Watson.
The Browns know they can’t make the same mistake as last year without having a veteran backup on the roster when the season starts, and bringing in Winston will be a perfect security blanket if Watson were to go down again.
