The Cincinnati Bengals made a surprise cut on Tuesday afternoon

It’s cut-down day in the NFL with teams trimming the roster down to 53. And already we have seen some surprising cuts including one from the Cincinnati Bengals.

On Tuesday, the Bengals released wide receiver and punt returner Trent Taylor. The 29-year-old Taylor was a good return man, having five punt returns of 20+ yards last year as Ian Rapoport noted:

A bit of a surprise: The #Bengals released punt returner/WR Trent Taylor, who had five punt returns of 20+ yards last year. He also averaged 14.5 yards per return this season.

    — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 29, 2023

As a wide receiver, Taylor caught six passes for 62 yards last season. He’s going into his fifth season in the NFL, spending the first three with the San Francisco 49ers and the last two with the Bengals. He has 87 receptions for 834 yards and 3 touchdowns in his career.

Simply as a threat as a return man, Taylor should get some interest for a team looking to improve in that area. I can’t imagine it will take him long to find a new home after the cut deadline passes.
