The Cincinnati Bengals kept their NFL Playoffs hopes alive by defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers by the score on 19-17 on Saturday night. For Cincinnati, it was their fifth consecutive win, giving them a 9-8 record after they started the year 0-3. It was the fourth straight loss for Pittsburgh who, despite having already clinched a postseason berth, are certainly not looking like a team that will last very long.
As has been the case all season, even when the Bengals were struggling, Cincinnati was led by the stellar quarterback play of Joe Burrow and the otherworldly pass catching abilities of wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.
Burrow completed 37 of 46 passes for 277 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Chase caught 10 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown and, in doing so, has set himself up to make NFL history.
Cincinnati Bengals Wide Receiver Ja’Marr Chase Will Win the Triple Crown
Chase’s production on Saturday night brought his season totals to 127 receptions for 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns. He is the first player in NFL history to have at least 1,700 receiving yards and at least 17 touchdown receptions in a season.
Additionally, he all but ensured that he will finish as the NFL leader in each of the three main receiving categories: receptions, yards, and touchdowns. He leads Amon-Ra St. Brown by 18 receptions, Justin Jefferson by 229 receiving yards, and Terry McLaurin and St. Brown by five receiving touchdowns.
Outside of a record-setting game from any of the receivers listed above, Chase will become the 13th player in the history of the league to win the Triple Crown, and just the third to do it this century.
