New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll is hiring a former head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles as his offensive coordinator. The move came after Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson revealed his feelings about going to the Raiders in free agency or staying with the Steelers.
Earlier in the week, reports emerged Carroll interviewed Darrell Bevell for the OC job. Bevell won Super Bowl XLVIII as the OC of the Seattle Seahawks when Carroll and Wilson were with the team. The idea floated that Carroll interviewed Bevell as a play to entice Wilson to sign with Las Vegas.
Russell Wilson on reuniting with Pete Carroll
Per Mark Long of the Associated Press, Wilson recently praised Carroll but said he was focused on the Steelers this offseason
“I’m looking forward to hopefully going back to the Steelers and we’ll see what happens with the rest,” Wilson said “I love it in Pittsburgh…Pete’s going to be a great coach, obviously,” Wilson said. “He’s great at what he does. But I’m focused on the Steelers.”
With Wilson setting his sights on a contract with Pittsburgh, Carroll hired a coach who has spent recent seasons coaching younger quarterbacks, a decision that would make sense if Las Vegas plans to be aggressive in trading up to draft a quarterback in April.
Las Vegas Raiders hire former Philadelphia Eagles HC
Per ESPN, former Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly agreed to become the OC of the Raiders.
“Back to the NFL: Former Eagles HC Chip Kelly is being hired as the Raiders offensive coordinator, per me and Pete Thamel,” Schefter posted on X.
