It’s been a few years since the Kansas City Chiefs (2-1) and New York Jets (1-2) faced each other. The visiting Chiefs enter the week after two straight wins. Meanwhile, the hosting Jets haven’t won since Week 1, owed in part to an injury that has many thinking they’re haunted.
Another edition of Sunday Night Football will put both teams to the test. Who will be the archer, and who will be the prey?

Key Stats
Chiefs Key Stats
Last week’s performance resembled the Kansas City team that won it all in February. Patrick Mahomes threw for 272 yards with three scores, the team rushed for 153 more, and the Chiefs finished with an easy 41 points. They’re up to 26.0 points per game (9th), 390.3 yards per game (5th), and 5.8 yards per play (5th). Mahomes has only been sacked once. A lone negative for this offense is six giveaways already. Still, it seems that under Andy Reid Kansas City’s offense will never go out of style.
However, the defense has been Kansas City’s white horse. They’re only giving up 13.3 points per game (4th) so far, aided by four takeaways and eight sacks. The Chiefs are limiting opposing offenses to 4.6 yards per play (6th). Injuries to Nick Bolton and Jaylen Watson won’t help this weekend, but Chris Jones’ return immediately made this defensive unit one of the NFL’s best.
Jets Key Stats
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down four snaps into his New York Jets career. Zach Wilson has been under center ever since, which has the Jets last in scoring at 14.0 points per contest. They are the worst passing team in the league, while their 4.1 yards per play is ranked 31st. Five giveaways and nine sacks aren’t helping either. New York may gain 4.2 yards per rush, but this offense isn’t going anywhere without a better passing game.
Just like last season, New York’s defense has managed to hold its ground without much offensive support. The Jets are only allowing 20.4 points per game (12th) and 4.8 yards per play (9th). They’ve helped offset the offense’s turnovers with four takeaways. Time of possession hasn’t been their ally, but the Jets’ defense has still delivered.
Don’t sleep on New York’s special teams either. They are top-six in kick return yards and punt return yards, including Week 1’s walk-off punt return TD. New York has made every kick they’ve attempted whether it was a field goal or extra point. Their net average punt yards is 46.0 (9th).
Game Prediction
Once again, the New York Jets have a scoring problem, albeit due to an unfortunate injury. Against another defense that’s top-10 in point prevention this week, don’t expect the Jets to score much. The Rodgers injury will be a season-defining one in New York. So, as they’ve grown accustomed to, the defense will have to carry New York to competitiveness on Sunday night.
There’s only so much that they can do before Kansas City’s offense takes over. Not many are capable of holding the Chiefs under 20 points. Considering that the Jets scored exactly 10 in the past two weeks, at least 20 will be plenty for Kansas City. Expect an outcome the NFL has known all too well the past few years, Kansas City dominating on a national stage. Sunday night will be a heavy dose of red.
