The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the retirement of Dan Meers, the man behind the iconic KC Wolf mascot, after an incredible 35 years of service. Meers, who joined the organization in 1990, has been a beloved figure in the franchise, bringing joy and energy to fans at Arrowhead Stadium and beyond.

As the longest-tenured mascot in NFL history, Meers transformed KC Wolf into more than just a game-day entertainer. His dedication and charisma made the character a symbol of community and passion for fans of all ages. Over the years, Meers appeared at more than 300 regular-season and playoff games, including five Super Bowls during the team’s recent era of success under Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.

Beyond the field, Meers built a legacy of connecting with the Kansas City community. His appearances at charity events, schools, and hospitals showcased his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. In 2006, his contributions were recognized with an induction into the Mascot Hall of Fame, the first NFL mascot to achieve this honor.

Meers’ retirement announcement coincided with National Mascot Day, a fitting tribute to his remarkable career. Team owner Clark Hunt praised Meers for his role in building KC Wolf into a symbol of pride and enthusiasm for the franchise. Fans have taken to social media to share their favorite memories, celebrating the joy he brought to fans.

Just recently, Kansas City paid tribute to Meer after he retired from the franchise. This can be seen in a post shared by the team’s official account on X.

Today’s a big day for the man behind the mask, and not just because it’s National Mascot Day. After 35 years as KC Wolf, Dan Meers will be officially hanging up the suit.
