The weakness of the Chicago Bears’ offensive line is the center position. Lucas Patrick started at center last season and is now an unrestricted free agent.
The team addressed the position in free agency by trading for Ryan Bates and signing a starter from the Los Angeles Rams.
The Chicago Bears signed the starting center of the Los Angeles Rams
Chicago signed Coleman Shelton to a 1-year, $3 million contract.
Coleman Shelton signed a 2-year extension with the Los Angeles Rams with a major provision
Shelton signed a 2-year, $4,750,000 contract extension with Los Angeles last offseason with the possibility of voiding the final year of his contract if he plays over 55% of offensive snaps during the 2023 season.
Shelton beat out Brian Allen for the starting job in 2023. He started every game, finishing with six penalties, two sacks allowed, a 64.5 PFF Grade, and represented 97% of offensive snaps.
His contract was voided because he played over 55% of offensive snaps, making him an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
He bet on himself to make more money than his current salary and did just that.
Bates will compete against Shelton
Bates will compete against Shelton for the starting center job next season.
