The Chicago Bears’ offseason thus far has been almost entirely dominated by two people: Justin Fields and Caleb Williams.
In this current climate, where the Bears are widely expected to use the 1st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, acquired from a trade with the Carolina Panthers in 2023, Justin Fields has been rendered expendable.
However, despite some reports suggesting that the Chicago Bears may get as much as a 1st round pick in exchange for the former 11th overall pick’s services, it seems as if his market may be limited as free agency approaches in the next couple of days.
Locking Up Lock-Down Players
Some good and thankfully, uncontroversial news for the Bears is the emergence of their young defense. Specifically, their secondary, where corners Tyrique Stevenson and Jaylon Johnson both emerged as high level playmakers on the back end.
The latter of the two has now been rewarded with a new contract, per Ari Meirov.
Breaking: The #Bears and All-Pro CB Jaylon Johnson have agreed to 4-year, $76M deal, keeping him in Chicago for years to come.

Chicago Bears Going Back To Their Defensive Roots
Whilst all the talk in the offseason has been about the offense, much maligned head coach, Matt Eberflus has sneakily improved the defense significantly over the past year, especially since the impactful arrival of edge rusher, Montez Sweat.
The Bears have now locked down their best ‘lockdown’ corner with a 4 year, $76 million contract, who was a Second Team All Pro this past year, alongside making the Pro Bowl for the very first time.
Although the Bears still have a long way to go before being able to truly contend with the big boys in the NFC, after going just 7-10, although they did have a winning record down the stretch.
Let’s see what impact this signing has on the Bears’ offseason as we finally head into the meat and potatoes of free agency and the draft.
