NFL safety Jonathan Owens is definitely no stranger to controversy when it comes to Olympian extraordinaire Simone Biles. But after the Chicago Bears’ star skipped training camp to watch his wife perform at the 2024 Olympics, one of his teammates spoke out and shared their true thoughts about the matter.
Owens was on a flight back to the United States when his Biles competed in the vault final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Despite being en route, Owens kept a close eye on his wife’s performance from the air. In turn, she earned gold in the event, scoring 15.300 on average across her two vaults – the Biles II and the Cheng.
Owens had been granted leave from Bears training camp to support Biles at the Olympics. He was present for her earlier gold medal wins in the team final and all-around. The football player previously expressed how thrilled he was to witness Biles’ Olympic journey in person, praising her ability to excel despite the intense media scrutiny.
Biles and Owens married in 2023 after meeting in 2020. The couple has faced some online criticism, which the Olympian has defended, insisting they should be “left alone.” Owens’ dedication to cheering on his wife from afar underscores the support he provides as she continues to cement her legacy as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time.
Chicago Bears’ DJ Moore Shares Thoughts About Jonathan Owens Skipping Training Camp Because of Simone Biles
Just recently DJ Moore, Owens’ Chicago Bears teammate, appeared on an episode of Green Light with Chris Long. Among the topics he talked about was his thoughts about Biles’ husband skipping training camp to watch the Olympics, which can be seen in a video posted by the podcast’s account on YouTube.
“No, we haven’t been messing with him. I know he was out there supporting his wife, which she did amazing and everybody was watching, so kudos to them. I know he’ll be back ready to work, so can’t wait for him to get back and tell the stories,” Moore said.
Before heading back to the United States, Owens proudly celebrated Biles and the gold medals she won at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He shared posts on social media, expressing how proud he was of his wife’s record-breaking performances and accomplishments.
With Biles getting the job done in Paris, Owens can now focus on training camp in preparation for the upcoming season. If all goes well, his run with the Bears will be off to a great start.
