After skipping training camp to watch Simone Biles’ Olympic performance in Paris, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens is back to work for next season. While he’s at it, the NFL star let out a celebration plan on the field inspired by his wife and an issue she faced just recently.
Biles, the renowned Olympic gymnast, faced a deduction during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Biles earned a score of 13.100 on the balance beam final, placing her in fifth place. However, the judges deducted three-tenths of a point from her overall score due to her failure to salute the judging panel for a long enough time.
According to the International Gymnastics Federation’s Code of Points, gymnasts must present themselves properly and acknowledge the judges at the start and end of their routine. While the deduction was deemed “a little harsh” by Biles’ coach, it ultimately did not affect the final outcome.
The decision sparked criticism on social media, with one user stating that Biles’ salute was “close enough” and another calling the deduction “petty.” The incident highlighted the strict adherence to the rules in gymnastics, even for an athlete of Biles’ stature.
Despite the deduction, Biles solidified her legacy as the greatest gymnast of all time, winning multiple medals at the 2024 Olympics. Her resilience and dedication to the sport continue to inspire athletes and fans worldwide.

Just recently, Owens returned to training camp after supporting Biles at the Paris Olympics. The Chicago star witnessed his wife become the most decorated American gymnast, praising her resilience in overcoming a calf injury to dominate the competition.
It remains to be seen whether Owens can perform that celebration once the new season starts. In any case, a lot of eyes will be on Biles’ husband to see how he’ll help the Bears become more competitive.
