The Chicago Bears loved what they saw from Justin Fields in year two. While there is plenty to work on, he became one of the most exciting young quarterbacks in the league due to his running ability. He was able to pull off highlight reel runs seemingly on a weekly basis. In a recent interview, he had an insane take on his career so far.
Chicago Bears Justin Fields On His Career
On the All Things Covered podcast, Fields was asked to list his top five running quarterbacks in NFL history. “I’m definitely in the top five,” Fields said. Last season was spectacular as he rushed for 1,143 yards, just 64 yards short of the single-season record at the position. But to say he is already top five? The rest of his top five were Michael Vick, Cam Newton, Lamar Jackson, and Steve Young. Notably, Randall Cunningham was left off the list among many other worth candidates.
Let’s See It Again
Last season was great but it was one season. The other aspect that made these other quarterbacks so great was their ability to pass and use their legs. Vick is famous for his running ability but his deep pass was a thing of beauty to watch. Fields struggled last year in the passing game which was a big reason why the team finished with the worst record in the league. I’m glad that Fields is confident in his abilities but before he gets put on the list of all-time greats, he needs to improve drastically.
Will the Chicago Bears be better this year? While they have revamped their roster in a big way, it all rests on Justin Fields. If he takes another huge step, the league is going to start to fear this team.
