The Chicago Bears made the huge move to acquire star wide receiver Keenan Allen in a trade this offseason. It was a perfect move to help rookie quarterback Caleb Williams have as easy of a transition to the NFL as any rookie quarterback could hope to have.
Allen has been one of the most consistent and productive wide receivers in the NFL for years. His addition took the Bears’ offensive ability from good to elite.
That being said, Allen only has one year left on his contract. There has been major speculation that he might only play one season in Chicago before heading off to another team next offseason.
Chicago Bears Facing Interesting Contract Situation with Keenan Allen
With all of the questions about Allen’s future, more details have been revealed. It sounds like Allen actually would like to remain with the Chicago Bears past the 2024 campaign.
According to a report from ESPN NFL insiders Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler, Allen has approached the team about an extension. However, the two sides have not made progress towards a potential deal.
“Allen recently changed agents, and with one year and $18.1 million left on his contract, he has approached the team about an extension. But so far, they haven’t made progress on that front.”
During the 2023 season with the Los Angeles Chargers, Allen ended up playing in 13 games. He racked up 108 receptions for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns. Putting up those numbers despite missing four games shows what he’s capable of doing.
At 32 years old, working out a two or three-year deal with Allen would be wise for the Chicago Bears. He could be a very valuable piece for at least the first two or three years of Williams’ career.
Expect to continue hearing more about a potential deal being worked on by Allen and the Bears. Acquiring him and then letting him walk after just one season would be a rough decision.
