The Carolina Panthers and owner David Tepper are increasing ticket prices by more than 4% despite having the NFL’s worst record in 2023.
The Panthers finished with a 2-15 record in 2023. They failed to score a single point in the last two games of the season. Season ticket prices will increase by an average of 7% while upper-level seating will increase by less than 1%.
The cheapest season ticket package prices available at Bank of America Stadium are $510, which is no different from last season
The Carolina Panthers could be banking on hope with quarterback Bryce Young
One potential reason the Carolina Panthers see it fit to increase their ticket prices despite such a down year is the hope tied to former No. 1 overall draft pick Bryce Young.
Young struggled in 2023, but it was his rookie season and his best weapon was a 33-year-old Adam Thielen. Young finished with 2,877 yards passing and just under a 60% completion rate. Bryce Young barely managed to eke out a positive touchdown-to-interception ratio with 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Carolina Panthers interim head coach Chris Tabor said Young began to gain more control as the season winded down in an article from the Associated Press.
“You’re seeing a guy play with some confidence and understanding,” Tabor said. “He’s smart. He’s understanding how the game’s being played and what needs to be done, and he’s doing those things. You’re seeing a rookie player grow.”
Young explained that hard work was necessary in the same article, so many Panthers fans, along with the organization, could think he has his head in the right place.
“The goal is only working day in and day out throughout the week to win games on Sunday,” Young said. “We have to earn the right to do that, and that’s what every coach will say, what every player will say that that’s what it’s about. ”
The Carolina Panthers had relatively high attendance despite a poor record, and Bryce Young could be the reason
Despite going 2-15 and firing first-year coach Frank Reich after 11 games, the Carolina Panthers ranked No. 8 overall in average attendance for the 2023 season.
The Panthers brought in an average of 71,635 fans every home game. The Dallas Cowboys were the only team in the NFL to eclipse the 80,000-yard mark.
Success as a team does help attendance, but some teams bring in a lot of fans regardless of their success. The New York Giants and the New York Jets rank No. 2 and No. 3 in average attendance, respectively. Neither team had a chance to make the playoffs towards the end of the season.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are in the same division as the Carolina Panthers, were the least-attended team to make the playoffs. They ranked 28th in average attendance with just under 64,000 fans per game.
Excitement could’ve been brewing early for the Panthers as they had a first-year head coach and a first-year QB. Now, the Panthers will once again be going into the season with a first-year head coach in Dave Canales. Optimism is brewing as Canales helped Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield to a resurgence in 2023.
