The Carolina Panthers have agreed to a contract extension with their elite defensive tackle. The deal was negotiated by Brown’s agents Drew Rosenhaus, Jason Rosenhaus, and Robert Bailey, as well as the Panthers’ Derrick Brown.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown is signing a four-year, $96 million extension that includes $63.165 million guaranteed.

Carolina Panthers Choose Brown over Burns
The deal’s timing makes sense after the Panthers decided to move on from edge defender Brian Burns. Burns was traded to the Giants for a 2024 second-round draft choice (No. 39) and a 2025 fifth-round selection, agreeing to a swap of fifth-rounders in 2025 (the Giants getting No. 166 and sending No. 141 to Carolina).
The #Panthers failed to reach a deal with Brian Burns and ultimately had to trade him, but they didn't let anything similar happen with Derrick Brown.

With Brian Burns in New York, Panthers build around Brown as their defensive cornerstone. https://t.co/TYvzoSC1uk

According to Jordan Sigler of Gridiron Heroics, At 24 million per year, the 25-year-old will make about $4 million less per season than Burns. Brown is coming off his best career season. He recorded 103 total tackles and two sacks. Those efforts were enough for Brown to earn his first Pro Bowl nomination.
Reactions to Brown Extension
Brown has now become the fourth highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL. Reactions reflect the payday being positive.

The front office inherited a mess with the Brian Burns situation, they avoid it this time by getting the Derrick Brown extension handled well before draft, OTAs, mini camp, etc. #Panthers@1340AMFOXSports

Why extending Derrick Brown now was such a smart move for the #Panthers:
🔹He's damn good
🔹He'll be more expensive later
🔹They avoid the PR nightmare they had with Brian Burns
🔹Frees up cap space now to sign others

Great news for Derrick Brown — one of the rare (it seems?) prospects that goes from 5-star HS prospect to college All-American to first-round draft pick to Pro Bowl to monster contract
Brown has lived up to the billing every step of the way, both on and off the field https://t.co/IBKBeh9u7Z
