What Happened with Nelson Agholor?
Nelson Agholor and Jalen Reagor could have something in common by the end of the season for the Eagles. There haven’t been too many successful Eagles to come out of the first round since Lane Johnson.
You can argue Wentz but his up-and-down career raises question marks. After Lane Johnson was Nelson Agholor a receiver the Eagles drafted back in 2015 from USC. Agholor had a slow start to his career and many were ready to write him off.
He finished his first 2 seasons with only 500 yards combined and 3 touchdowns. That’s horrible for a first-round draft pick.
Agholor would then have a breakout season in 2017 during the Eagles’ Super Bowl run that would ultimately save his career. He posted near 800 yards including a 9-catch 84-yard performance en route to a Super Bowl.
After that game, Agholor would earn himself an extension when the Eagles used Agholor’s 5th-year option. as the #2 guy he put up the same numbers roughly in 2018 with 736 yards but only 4 touchdowns. He would soon be traded a couple of years later to the raiders where he had a career-high in yards and TDS.
How’s Jalen Reagor?
This kind of career is what Eagles fans, coaches, and the front office are hoping for from Jalen Reagor. In 2020 as a rookie, Reagor was outshined tremendously by Justin Jefferson who the Eagles passed on. Reagor only posted 400 yards and 1 touchdown and in 2021 only 300 yards and 2 touchdowns.
What was sad was that he had almost as many punt return yards as receiving yards with 227.
So far during training camp, Reagor has been running with the second team. With AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, and Quez Watkins running with the ones.
Coach Sirianni has had some praise for the 3rd year receiver saying he has come in this year with a new mindset, in shape after a failed conditioning test in 2021, and actively trying to improve. Although he has come into camp his spot isn’t guaranteed Coach Sirianni said.
“You know… We have great depth at the wide receiver position, and so, he’s battling for a spot. He is working with (the second string) right now. He’s gotten a lot of balls (thrown in his direction) over the past two days. He’s done a nice job. He’s battling for a spot. He’s battling for his return spot. He’s worked hard in the offseason to come back in great shape, Yeah, he’s battling for a spot.”
Reagor is looking to follow in Agholor’s footsteps now with a year 3 resurgence. His 1st round draft nod won’t save him and he has to look over his shoulders at receivers like Devon Allen, Greg Ward, John Hightower, and Deon Cain to name a few battling for the last couple of spots.
