The Buffalo Bills will have to rely on three inexperienced cornerbacks after Tre’Davious White suffers a significant injury. Buffalo Bills star cornerback Tre’Davious White is feared to have suffered an Achilles tear in Week 4’s 40-28 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Tre’Davious injured his right Achilles in the third quarter against the Miami Dolphins.

The Buffalo Bills star cannot stay healthy as of late

The Buffalo Bills drafted Tre’Davious White in the 1st round-27th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. White had an excellent rookie season, recording 69 tackles, four interceptions, and 18 pass deflections. White was second in the Defensive Rookie of the Year voting behind Marshon Lattimore.

Tre’Davious made his first Pro Bowl and was named to the All-Pro team in his third season, recording 58 tackles, six interceptions, and 17 pass deflections. White was 5th in the Defensive Player of the Year vote. The Buffalo Bills exercised White’s fifth-year option after his third season.

On September 5th, 2020, Tre’Davious signed a 4-year $69 million contract extension with the Buffalo Bills. Tre’Davious made his second Pro Bowl and was named to the second-team All-Pro his fourth season. White recorded 57 tackles, 11 pass deflections, and three interceptions.

Tre’Davious White’s fifth season would be cut short due to an injury. On Thanksgiving day against the New Orleans Saints, he suffered a non-contact, torn ACL to his left knee. White would have a long recovery from that ACL tear.

The Buffalo Bills placed Tre’Davious White on the PUP list to start the 2022 season, missing the first seven games. The Bills activated White on November 1st, playing in seven regular season games, recording 20 tackles, six pass deflections, and one interception. White started in their two playoff games, recording six tackles and two pass deflections.

The Buffalo Bills must rely on inexperienced corner number 1

The first cornerback the Bills must rely on is Dane Jackson. Dane Jackson is Tre’Davious White’s backup cornerback. Dane Jackson already filled in for White when he was injured.

Dane Jackson was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 7th round, 239th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Dane suited up for five games in his rookie season, starting in two games. Dane had 15 tackles, five pass deflections, and one interception in 2020.

Dane would start the remaining six games of the 2021 season and the two playoff games. He recorded 41 tackles, six pass deflections, and zero pass deflections.

Dane took over for Tre’Davious White being on the PUP list, recording 57 tackles, 12 pass deflections, and two interceptions. Dane Jackson kept starting after White was activated. Dane would also fill in for Christian Benford when he got injured. Dane will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. Expect a big payday for him if he plays well.

The Buffalo Bills must rely on inexperienced corner number 2

The second cornerback the Bills must rely on is Christian Benford. Christian Benford is in his second second. He is currently the starting cornerback opposite of Tre’Davious White/Dane Jackson.

Christian Benford was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 6th round, 185th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Benford beat out rookie 1st rounder Kaiir Elam in his rookie season. He recorded 24 tackles, five pass deflections, and one interception in nine games. Benford fractured his hand in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins, causing him to miss two games. Benford suffered an oblique injury on Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions, and Buffalo placed him on the injured reserve. The team activated Benford on January 6th.

Not having Tre’Davious White is a big loss for the elite Buffalo Bills defense. Taron Johnson needs to lead the young corners and make them great. All eyes will be on Dane Jackson and Christian Benford.
