Last week, the Buffalo Bills stole the headlines across the NFL by trading their elite pass catcher, Stefon Diggs, to the Houston Texans. Alongside Diggs, Buffalo parted with a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. The Bills will also carry a $31.1 million dead cap hit into the 2024 season.
The Bills also saw fellow starting receiver Gabe Davis walk, inking a three-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. With quarterback Josh Allen’s war chest of weapons needing a restock, one NFL writer believes the AFC East club could make a franchise-altering trade in the upcoming NFL Draft.
NFL Staff Writer: Foreshadowing Blockbuster Buffalo Bills Draft Day Trade
Benjamin Solak, an NFL staff writer for the Ringer, appeared on the Up & Adams Show on Thursday, giving his take on a potential Buffalo Bills draft-day trade. Solak believes that if the opportunity presents itself, Buffalo could send a massive haul to a team in return for an early-to-mid first-round selection, intending to select a wideout.
𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚: Don’t be surprised if the #Bills trade up in the draft for one of the top wide receivers, says @BenjaminSolak

“I would not be surprised to see the Bills make the huge trade up for the wide receiver. If you get one of those top three falling, it’s expected to be Rome Odunze, the wide receiver out of Washington. If he starts to get to eight, he starts to get nine, he starts to get to ten, Brandon Beane’s going to be on the phone, and he’s going to try and make an enormous move,” said Solak to Kay Adams during the Up & Adams Show.
Odunze is near the top of a loaded wide receiver draft class, headlined by LSU’s Malik Nabers and Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. However, there is little possibility that Nabers or Harrison Jr. will drop in the draft. Solak believes that if Odunze falls outside the top ten, it nearly becomes a certainty that Buffalo will look to trade up for his services.
Solak continued, saying, “You cannot walk into next season throwing the ball to Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins; you can’t do it. I would not be surprised if the Bills make as big of a round one trade as we have seen in the last few years.”
The Bills inked Samuel and Hollins to contracts this season, but neither has operated in an offense as a proper top option. Buffalo also houses Khalil Shakir, a fifth-round pick from the 2022 NFL draft. Shakir posted 611 yards and two scores last season.
Former Washington Huskies WR Rome Odunze: Great Fit for Buffalo Bills
Solak did not hide his excitement for a potential Rome Odunze pairing with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen next fall. The former Washington Huskies standout could easily find himself atop the Buffalo depth chart if general manager Brandon Beane trades up to draft him.
“I will own a Rome Odunze Offensive Rookie of the Year ticket within five minutes of the trade,” said Solak. Odunze shined with the Huskies last season while helping lead them to the College Football Playoff Championship.
The six-foot-three, 200-pound pass-catcher tallied 92 receptions for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023. He finished tops in the country regarding receiving yards. He also ran a 4.45 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine while positing elite numbers in the ten-yard split and vertical jump.
