Buffalo Bills running back Ray Davis capitalized on his chance in a big way on Monday Night Football in a 23-20 win over the New York Jets. Davis stepped in for the injured James Cook and put on a show. He showed us his ability to be a rusher and a receiver.
The rookie may not have started, veteran Ty Johnson took that honor, but Ray Davis wasted no time making an impact on the game. It was all Davis after veteran Ty Johnson took the first carry and he never looked back. He was well on his way to 100 yards from scrimmage by halftime, finishing with 97 rushing yards on 20 carries and 55 receiving yards on three catches. His biggest play of the night came as he brought in a 42-yard pass from quarterback Josh Allen, juggling the ball and fighting defenders before making the spectacular one-handed catch.

Ray Davis Shines in Cook’s Absence
Bills fans were buzzing after Davis’ performance showed he was more than capable in Cook’s absence. The offense got a major spark from his ability to churn out big plays on the ground and contribute to the passing game. The 24-year-old fourth-round draft pick from Kentucky showed why he’s a guy to watch down the road, even after Cook’s return.
While James Cook is expected to reclaim his starting role when he’s healthy, Ray Davis has certainly made a strong case for more playing time. Meanwhile, the Bills will lean heavily on Davis again if Cook isn’t ready to go next week versus Tennessee. Regardless, he’s in the conversation now as a possible key piece of Buffalo’s offense for the future.
Bills fans, take note: Ray Davis might be here to stay.
