Overshadowed by the devastating Aaron Rodgers injury is the fact that the Buffalo Bills let one slip away by losing to the New York Jets in overtime in their Week 1 matchup on Sunday. This was for Buffalo to lose after Rodgers was carted off the field in New York’s first drive of the season. Josh Allen and Co. took a 13-3 lead at halftime and all they had to do was to hold on for the rest of the way. They did not.
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen Reacts to Loss Vs. New York Jets
The Bills allowed New York to score 13 points in the second half to force the game to overtime. It was in the extra period that disaster struck for Buffalo as they allowed the Jets to score a stunning walk-off punt return touchdown. Ultimately, the Rodgers-less Jets scored the massive win, 22-16.
Josh Allen spoke out after the game and the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback clearly wasn’t happy with the result. In fact, he knows exactly who’s to blame for the loss and Allen did not hold back in pointing the finger:
“Trying to force the ball,” Allen said, via Michael David Smith of PFT. “Same s**t.”
“… I hurt our team tonight. I cost our team tonight. It feels eerily similar to last year, and I hate that it’s the same. It sucks when you feel like you’re the reason, and I am the reason we lost tonight.”
Simply put, Allen had a terrible evening. He turned the ball over four times, which included three interceptions. His third one ultimately resulted in the Jets being able to tie the game with less than five minutes remaining.
Allen is clearly frustrated with himself and his totally forgettable performance in Week 1. The good thing about this young man is that he has a short memory, at least in terms of putting these awful performances behind him. Buffalo fans fully expect the 27-year-old to bounce back against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
