The Buffalo Bills are going in a totally new direction this season as they will have plenty of new faces on both sides of the ball. The most notable of their offseason moves, was trading their star wide receiver and Josh Allen’s favorite target in Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. The Bills won’t just be losing their top receiver but they will also suffer a financial loss from the trade as well.

The Bills will have to suffer a $31 million dead cap hit by sending their top receiver to the Texans. The general manager Brandon Beane explained why he thought that the team needed to make the move. While the team seems to be losing a lot with the trade, and they do not have a legitimate replacement for Diggs, Beane felt the move was necessary for future success.
When on the Athletic Football Show, Beane said the move was needed to get that contract off the books.
“I would say, from a cap standpoint, we decided just to go ahead and eat it out now. We think we can compete and do what we need to do by eating it now,” Beane said, via CBS Sports. “Because if we didn’t, if we tried to come up with some way to split it up too many different ways, now it’s just like that albatross hanging on your neck all year.”
Beane said that the team and himself are “super-competitive” and that the goal is to bring the Super Bowl trophy to Buffalo no matter what. While the team lost $31 million in dead cap they will save $19 million next year to continue to build around Josh Allen.
“I’m gonna be ripping myself the minute we have to walk into a year and I feel like we gotta play with one arm tied behind our back because the cap is what it is,” Beane said.

While they will end up taking care of their cap issues with the moves they made this offseason, the team will have to replace Diggs as a group because they do not have an individual that can fill the hole that he is leaving. Th group effort will include Curtis Samuel and Marquez-Valdes Scantling.
The team is hoping that they second round pick of this years draft Keon Coleman will be able to make an immediate impact for the team. He has come in and made a quick impact with his personality, but we will have to wait and see if it translates to the field with Allen.
The GM compared the rookie receiver to Baskin-Robbins because, as he said, they “got a lot of flavors.” In addition to the receivers they will need better play from their two tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox. They will need to step up big time in the passing game as well.
