The Buffalo Bills have extended Taron Johnson to a three-year extension. He is now the highest-paid nickel back in NFL history.
Taron Johnson has agreed to a three-year, $31 million contract extension with the Bills. The new deal includes roughly $14 million guaranteed.

Johnson, 27, had 98 total tackles in 2023, one sack, three forced fumbles, and one recovered fumble.
Buffalo Bills Key Piece
According to NFL.com, Johnson has become integral to Buffalo’s great defense over the past two seasons. Selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Johnson has registered 201 total tackles (nine tackles for loss), 20 pass defenses, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions (one for a touchdown) in 42 regular-season games (23 starts).

Taron Johnson has become the highest-paid nickel corner in NFL history. He has a three-year, $31 million extension with Buffalo, and his agent, Jason Chayut, has confirmed the deal.
He passed Indianapolis Colts nickel corner Kenny Moore II, who recently signed a three-year $30 million deal. Johnson gets Moore by one million.
Buffalo Bills Defense
Eyes will be focused on head coach Sean McDermott’s defense this season. Josh Allen and the offense continue to produce, but the defense still needs help.

In 2023, the Bills defense ranked 4th in points against and 9th in total yards against. Both are excellent numbers. They also created pressure at a great rate.
Cover1.net stated that one thing the front four did well was create pressure, ranking seventh overall in pressure rate on the season. The Bills blitzed 23.5% of dropbacks on the season, ranking 18th overall.
The problem isn’t the pass defense. It’s rush defense. The Bills rank 28th in the NFL in yards per rush attempt. Taron Johnson will continue to help the pass defense, but hopefully they find some solutions against the run.
