The Buffalo Bills are currently in 6th place in the AFC Playoff Picture and are trailing the Miami Dolphins by two games for 1st place in the AFC East.
Their defense has been decent this year. They allow the fourth-fewest points, the ninth-fewest yards, the twelfth-fewest yards per play, the thirteenth-fewest first downs, the ninth-fewest passing yards, the sixteenth-fewest rushing yards, and have the tenth-most takeaways.
The defense strengthened their defensive line by activating one of their best defensive players off injured reserve.
The Buffalo Bills activated DaQuan Jones off injured reserve
The Buffalo Bills activated defensive tackle DaQuan Jones off injured reserve.
Jones suffered a torn pectoral in Week 5 and was placed on injured reserve. He would miss the next ten games.
Jones was having a great season
Jones was having a great season before the injury. He had ten tackles, three for a loss, five quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, eight pressures, and a 90.2 PFF Grade.
Who was his replacement?
Jordan Phillips took over for the injured Jones and started nine out of their last ten games. He had 15 tackles, two for a loss, five quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, five pass deflections, seven pressures, and a 35.8 PFF Grade.
Phillips suffered a wrist injury in Week 15 and was placed on injured reserve.
Who’s their other starting defensive tackle?
Ed Oliver is the other starting defensive tackle on their defense. Oliver has been dominant this season, recording 48 tackles, 13 for a loss, 14 quarterback hits, 8.5 sacks, two pass deflections, one forced fumble, 16 pressures, and a 64.7 PFF Grade.
Will Jones play this week?
DaQuan Jones is expected to play in their Week 17 matchup against the New England Patriots.
Head coach Sean McDermott commended Jones’ toughness for coming back from a brutal injury:
“We didn’t know for sure whether he’d make it back or not, and I commend him for working so diligently and then having the desire to come back and play. That doesn’t always happen around the league, right? So I think that says a lot about who he is and what he thinks of this team and his teammates.”
Getting him back in the lineup couldn’t have come at a better time.
Getting DaQuan Jones back in the lineup couldn’t have come at a better time because he’s one of their best defensive linemen who does a decent job in the passing game and an even better job in the run game.
If the Buffalo Bills win out and the Miami Dolphins lose both games, they could have a chance at the number 2 seed in the AFC.
