The Cleveland Browns had OTAs and mandatory minicamp earlier this offseason. One of the biggest stories with the Browns has been the quarterback competition.

For now, Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett will be the starting quarterback and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are third and fourth on the Browns depth chart. It remains to be seen what will transpire during training camp. Some Cleveland fans want to see Sanders be the starting quarterback for Week 1 of the 2025 NFL Season.
NFL Analyst Mentions That the Cleveland Browns Have Many Questions Including Shedeur Sanders For the 2025 NFL Season

Jori Epstein, a senior reporter covering the NFL for Yahoo Sports mentioned about Cleveland’s current quarterback situation. Deshaun Watson appears to be out of the picture for them. It means that the other four quarterbacks on the roster are competing for one starting spot.
Epstein believes that Cleveland has many questions about the position as they enter training camp. She said,
“The Browns have multiple questions to answer right now. In the wake of what is expected to be the end of Watson’s starting chapter in Cleveland, the Browns need to determine who will start Week 1 for them at quarterback and how they want to allocate their in-game quarterback opportunities throughout the 2025 season. They need to determine what their long-term plan is at quarterback. They’ll need to discern whether they want to package their two 2026 first-round picks to select one of the draft’s best signal-callers next year.”
Does this mean that Sanders is not a lock to be the long-term starter for the Browns? Is the 2025 season just an audition for Sanders and the other three quarterbacks on the roster? The truth is Cleveland is not going to be good in 2025, and they have their own pick in 2026 and also the Jacksonville Jaguars selection in the first-round.
The Browns inside the building know that Flacco and Pickett is not the long-term answer. Does Cleveland even think Sanders or Gabriel is the long-term answer either? Despite Sanders playing well so far, there might be a reason why he is still fourth on the depth chart.
The truth is that the quarterbacks potentially coming out in the 2026 NFL Draft might be better than any current quarterback on Cleveland’s roster. Browns fans could get hyped about Sanders all they want to, but the truth is Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry may not feel like he is the long-term answer for this franchise.
