Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett, who had previously been fined for criticizing officiating, chose his words carefully after the team’s recent victory over the Chicago Bears. Despite his apparent dissatisfaction with the game’s refereeing, Garrett avoided elaborating to avoid another fine, suggesting reporters direct their questions to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
“Ask Roger [Goodell]. You watch the film and you ask Roger, I know what the question is going to be and not going to hit me over the head with anything else.”
Over the course of the 2023 NFL season, it has become a talked about issue among most teams how bad the officiating has been. It seems in almost every game, there have been multiple blown calls that were bad blown calls.
Browns Star Myles Garrett Has A History Of Referee Frustration
Garrett’s frustration with officiating had surfaced two weeks prior when he believed there were insufficient holding calls against the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive line. While expressing similar concerns about the Bears game, he refrained from providing specifics.
Hayden Grove of Cleveland.com shared images on Twitter that seemed to depict obvious holds on Garrett during the Week 15 match, with no corresponding calls made.
During the Bears game, Garrett registered three tackles but was unable to secure a sack for the fourth consecutive week. So far on the season, he has racked up 36 tackles, 13 sacks, four forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and three passes defended.
The former Texas A&M standout, selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Browns, has solidified his status as one of the league’s premier pass rushers, earning multiple Pro Bowl appearances and First-Team All-Pro selections.
Although Garrett had posted 16 sacks in each of the previous two seasons, his current slump makes surpassing that mark challenging this year. With a 9-5 record, the Browns are set to face the Houston Texans next, followed by matchups against the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals to conclude the regular season.
Make sure to tune in next week to watch the Browns and Texans square off. You can watch the game on CBS at 1:00 p.m. EST.
