College football fans heavily criticized LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly for his handling of an injury during the team’s 42-28 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday night. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a brutal hit from Alabama defensive end Dallas Turner, who was flagged for roughing the passer.
Daniels left the game following the hit and LSU’s medical staff checked the star player out. Daniels would return to the game briefly before he was taken to the medical tent and ruled out of the game as he was placed in the concussion protocol.
According to On3, Kelly said after the game he brought Daniels back due to the advice he received from LSU’s medical staff:
As for why Daniels came back into the game briefly after the hit, Kelly said he received clearance from the medical staff initially. When he returned to the sidelines, they said he couldn’t go back out.
“He was evaluated, was cleared and then came back,” Kelly said. “They looked at him again and felt like he wasn’t prepared to go back into the game, and held him out of the game. Those are decisions that are made by our medical team.”
College football fans didn’t like the decision
Many fans watching the game didn’t think Kelly should have allowed Daniels to come back in the game after taking the hit to the head. The medical staff should have checked Daniels out for a possible concussion immediately following the illegal blow to the head.
Here are the best takes of fans calling out Kelly for how he handled Daniels’ head injury.
What a great hit! Also, people shouldn’t be surprised Brian Kelly put him back in the game with a concussion (which is what people need to be pissed off about) https://t.co/4jpL7dI9il

What about Brian Kelly keeping a guy with a concussion in the game. Tells you who Kelly is. LAU is not going to get to play UGA. Their season ended with Bama 😂

Does #BrianKelly care more about winning than his players' health?
If my kid plays in a major football program, I want a coach to put my kid's health FIRST over winning a fvcking game.
We know he bears responsibility for one tragedy already#LSU#Concussion#FireBrianKelly pic.twitter.com/ppKoSkE4Hv— Cajun (@bigcajunwba) November 5, 2023
I don't like Brian Kelly to begin with but for them to send Daniels back out after one play when anyone with half a brain knew he should be checked for a concussion, is bullshit. I am a Bama fan but that #15 should have been ejected for that

Brian Kelly in August: “We’re going to be open and honest with injuries.”
Brian Kelly in November: “Concussion Sumsmushin.”

Brian Kelly is a jackal. Jayden Daniels should not have been back out on the field, he was in concussion protocol. Kelly put Daniels in further damage.

So let me get this straight… Jayden Daniels was in concussion protocol, and Brian Kelly put him BACK IN THE GAME?

Brian Kelly really put Daniels back in for a play without clearing concussion protocol. After JD did get checked, he didn’t go back in. So he likely had a concussion and Kelly made him go back in. Wow.
