The Super Bowl is the most popular American sports event out there. For this reason, it is a coveted event for certain cities and NFL owners to host. Now, there appears to be a host for Super Bowl LXI, taking place in 2027, emerging.
SoFi Stadium Is Nearly Set for Super Bowl LXI
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, SoFi Stadium is looking like the favorite to host Super Bowl LXI. The NFL owners are going to vote on this today. However, barring anything shocking, Los Angeles appears to be getting another Super Bowl.
SoFi Stadium is one of the newest stadiums out there. The Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers both call it home. It cost $5.5 billion to build and it is still the most expensive stadium in the world.
Los Angeles Super Bowl History
Los Angeles is no stranger to hosting Super Bowls. The city hosted the very first Super Bowl back in 1967. Los Angeles has hosted eight total Super Bowls in three different venues.
This will be the second time that SoFi Stadium will be the host venue. The first time it played host was back in 2022 for Super Bowl LVI. That Super Bowl took place between the Cincinnati Bengals and the local Los Angeles Rams. In the end, the Rams won that Super Bowl in their home city.
Big Los Angeles Sports Events Coming Up
Awarding this Super Bowl to Los Angeles means the city plans to have three huge sports events in their city for three consecutive years. Los Angeles will take the global stage from 2026-2028. So, what else does the “City of Angels” have up their sleeve?
In 2026, Los Angeles plans to be one of the host cities for the World Cup. As of now, SoFi Stadium is planned to be the host venue for the city. Then, they have this Super Bowl in 2027. In 2028, Los Angeles plans to host the Olympics. It certainly looks like very busy and very profitable times are ahead for this city and sports events.
