North Carolina landed another commitment out of College Station Monday morning, adding former Texas A&M Aggies tight end Jake Johnson.
Johnson joins his brother Max Johnson in Chapel Hill. Max, who played QB for Texas A&M following an injury to starter Conner Weigman, committed to North Carolina at the end of November.
The 6-5, 240-pound Johnson is a red zone threat and saw major success during his first season with a true role, finishing with 24 receptions for 235 yards and four touchdowns. That may not sound like much in writing, but Johnson did it in only four games, all but one against SEC opponents.
And now, he’s heading to North Carolina.

North Carolina could get a boost from the Johnson Bros.
Neither Max nor Jake played in every game for a Jimbo Fisher-run Texas A&M program, but the pair only played better and better as the season went on. With Drake Maye moving on to the NFL, Johnson will be a strong option to open the season as QB1 at North Carolina.
The Tar Heels lost Kamari Morales to Boston College out of the portal, but they’ll be set at the tight end position in 2024. Bryson Nesbit and John Copenhaver can both return next season. Neither will participate in the Mayo Bowl against West Virginia.
Nesbit caught some buzz as a potential NFL Draft pick this offseason and finished the year with 41 receptions for 585 yards and 5 touchdowns.
North Carolina faces off against West Virginia in the Mayo Bowl, set for December 27 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
