Joe Burrow Replacement Options
Joe Burrow aggravated his calf during the fourth quarter of the Bengals’ loss to their AFC North rival, the Baltimore Ravens. He also missed the team’s practice on Thursday, which led to Burrow being limited in drills the following two days. If Joe Burrow is not able to go on Monday night, his backup Jake Browning will most likely get his first career start.
In the worst-case scenario in which Burrow is out for multiple games, the Cincinnati Bengals are prepared to start a former quarterback who played a postseason game for them in AJ McCarron, who has just signed to the Bengals’ practice squad.
Recovery
Burrow has said that he wore a compression sleeve on his injured leg during his light practice to limit the swelling. The Bengals’ quarterback said he has been preparing as if he will be playing on Monday night. He told reporters, “That may not be my decision to make [On if he will play], my job is to gout out and play. That’s what I’m preparing to do.”
Burrow also gave a step-by-step list for him to be able to play against the Rams. He said, “You have to practice one day, maybe not full, but you’ve got to be running around and throwing the ball. You just have to feel confident in your ability to go out and do your job.”
Burrow’s Impact
If Joe Burrow does not play this week, it can impact the Bengals significantly and could jeopardize the team falling to 0-3 to start the 2023 season, which nobody saw as a possibility. Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals have struggled to get a rhythm going so far, and the star quarterback missing a key game, and possibly more can make it even more difficult for Cincinnati to climb back up in the tough AFC North.
We will keep close track of the Joe Burrow injury, and update you as soon as there is a definitive answer as to if he will play on Monday Night Football or not.
