Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has officially been ruled out of this week’s matchup against the Chicago Bears. The starting quarterback suffered a back injury in last week’s win against the New England Patriots, leading to him being taken to the hospital. This means backup quarterback Brian Hoyer will likely get the start after finishing the game last week. This report comes in from NFL insider and analyst Adam Schefter via Twitter.

Raiders’ QB Jimmy Garoppolo will not play Sunday’s game vs. the Bears due to his back injury, per source.

The quarterback appeared to be in a lot of pain during the first half of last Sunday’s game against New England. His injury was described as a back problem which caused Garoppolo to be sidelined and unable to return to the game. He was then taken to a local hospital for further evaluation out of fear of internal damage. Luckily, he tested negative for any additional serious injuries.

Garoppolo finished the game with 162 passing yards and 14 of 22 on his passing attempts. He had the Raiders at a 13-3 lead going into the half before not returning to the action. Head coach Josh McDaniels described his injury as “A lot better” than everyone expected.  However, Garoppolo did not participate in practice this week, which has led him to be sidelined for this week’s game against Chicago.

The starting quarterback has struggled in 2023, going for 1,079 passing yards and seven touchdowns along with eight interceptions. He has led the Raiders to a 3-3 record to start the season, but that can be in jeopardy if he is to miss significant time. There have been many questions amongst NFL fans and analysts as to whether Garoppolo will be in Las Vegas long-term due to his struggles this season.

Las Vegas should be fine for this week as the Bears will also be without their starting quarterback Justin Fields this week. It should be a pretty even matchup and will make for a close game. Garoppolo’s overall injury timeline is unknown at the moment, but we will keep you updated as this situation continues to unfold.
