Boston College is in the middle of the pack in the CFB, so it makes sense for them to want a better offense to become more competitive in the ACC.
The team is hoping that they have finally found the solution to their long-term problems by bringing over Bill O’Brien to transform the team. As part of the offensive overhaul O’Brien is trying to introduce to the team, he’s bringing over one of his coaches from the New England Patriots into the CFB.
Boston College hires former New England Patriots coach Will Lawing as offensive coordinator
According to Eagle Insider’s AJ Black, the newest Boston College coach is looking forward to having former New England Patriots TE coach Will Lawing create schemes for the Eagles as its offensive coordinator.
Bill O’Brien has nothing but praise for his long-time collaborator. He especially highlighted his attention to detail, which he mentioned when Lawing left his job at Penn State to work with the Houston Texans:
“He did an excellent job for us on film breakdowns, on projects, on running the look team, on coaching, on certain days when we would ask him to take the rookie offensive line or the rookie tight ends. He did a lot of little different coaching assignments for us that he was really impressive with.”
How will O’Brien and Lawing help improve Boston College in the ACC?
Boston College executives hope that the arrival of both O’Brien and Lawing will help transform an offense that failed to stand up to the rest of the conference.
The Eagles were terrible when it came to the passing game, only notching 182.5 air yards a game, the third-lowest in the ACC. Their passing touchdowns were none better, tying Wake Forest’s 1.2 for the second-worst in the league.
Since Lawing worked closely with some of the Patriots’ TEs, it won’t be reasonable to expect better things from Jeremiah Franklin.
These are exciting times for Boston College football, and Eagles fans can only hope that better things are ahead for their team.
