The Houston Texans have a lot of things to do if they are going to turn their promising 2023 campaign with C.J. Stroud into a legitimate championship window that will see them overcome a stacked AFC that is led by the Kansas City Chiefs.
To take down the best teams the AFC has to offer, they cannot simply rely on providing Stroud with as much offensive firepower as possible. They also need to make sure their defense can neuter some of the most potent quarterbacks in the game.
One of the players who can help make that happen is Blake Cashman. However, he hasn’t signed a deal with the team as free agency is now in full swing. He reveals his thoughts on possibly returning to the Houston Texans in 2024 and beyond.
Blake Cashman is open to returning to the Houston Texans
Cashman, who played for the New York Jets before joining the Texans in 2022, expressed his interest in staying with the team after the promising 2023 season he enjoyed with the squad.
According to him, he made it clear that he’s more than open to talking with team Texans representatives to find a suitable contract that makes every party happy.
Per Texans Wire’s Tyler Greenawalt:
“I’ve made it very clear to the team and my agent that whatever opportunities come my way, Houston is going to have the chance to make an offer or counteroffer to keep me here because I do believe staying here is the best option,” Cashman said. “It’s great for both parties. They know me, I know them. What they do well is perfect for what I need. So, I’m not going to make any decisions without going back to Houston first.”
Cashman played superb football during his second year with the Texans. He completed 50 solo tackles, 2.0 sacks, one fumble recovery, five pass deflections, and one interception in 13 starts.
At only 27 years of age, it should be a reasonable move for the Texans to give him at least three more years with the team and become a defensive pillar in the AFC South.
