The Buffalo Bills are having a season to remember in 2024.  On the field they’re 11-3 and in prime position to have one of the top seeds in the AFC playoffs.  Off the field they’ve seen numerous stories go viral.  This is another one that has fans scratching their heads.

On Thursday, offensive lineman Dion Dawkins spoke to the media about a plane crash that happened in his yard in Aurora, New York:

A single-engine aircraft went down near the three-time Pro Bowler’s house around 11:30 a.m. after taking off from Lansing, Michigan. A male pilot, who had not been identified at the time of writing, is said to have perished in the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board has announced it will launch an investigation into the incident, with mechanical failure understood to be the cause.

Fortunately, no one on the ground was hurt, and Dawkins and his family are okay.

He was excused from practice on Thursday. After reaching the team’s facility, he spoke with the media, expressing sympathy for the pilot’s family:

“I still wonder why things happen in life, but tragedies happen all of the time. The biggest point about it is I just hope that the pilot’s family is okay,” he said. “I hope that they’re doing alright, because somebody lost their life today for an accident.

And I’m glad that my family is perfectly fine, the alarm systems, the security guards that are there and all of the people that are involved that help keep us safe, like everything was going off.”
