The Baltimore Ravens continue to make headway toward posting the best record in the NFL in back-to-back seasons. A year after owning a 13-4 regular season record and making a trip to the AFC Championship game, Baltimore continues to make moves to strengthen its roster for next fall. Per NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Ravens re-signed standout linebacker Kyle Van Noy to a two-year deal on Thursday.
The Ravens made headlines early last month, inking superstar rusher Derrick Henry to a two-year, $16 million deal worth up to $20 million. He will make $9 million guaranteed in his first season with the AFC North club. Henry led the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns from 2019 to 2020.
Baltimore Ravens LB Kyle Van Noy: Returning to AFC North Franchise
The Baltimore Ravens brought back one of their top second-level defenders, signing linebacker Kyle Van Noy to a two-year extension on Thursday. The deal is worth up to $9 million. Van Noy joined the Ravens last season, collecting 30 tackles, nine sacks, and nine TFLs in 14 games while playing within the best defense in football. The 32-year-old originally started his career with the Detroit Lions, where he spent two and a half seasons. However, he found massive success during his first stint with the New England Patriots from 2016 to 2019. The BYU product tallied 21.5 sacks in nearly five seasons with the Pats.
Van Noy played both playoff games for the Ravens last season, registering four tackles and one TFL. The former second-round pick will return to Baltimore in 2024 and enter his 11th professional season.
Baltimore Ravens: New Look Defense in 2024
The Baltimore Ravens, who led the NFL in the fewest points allowed per game (16.5) in 2023, lost defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald to the Seattle Seahawks head coaching vacancy. Baltimore has since promoted Zach Orr to fill the position. Meanwhile, star linebacker Patrick Queen signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason. Queen had 133 tackles in 2023.
The Ravens also lost edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney and defensive back Geno Stone to free agency. Clowney signed with the Carolina Panthers, while Stone will suit up for the Cincinnati Bengals. All eyes will be on the offense next season, with quarterback Lamar Jackson expected to post monster numbers after winning his second MVP in 2023. Despite throwing for just 24 touchdowns against seven picks, Jackson easily won the MVP. However, he again struggled in the postseason, including a two-turnover effort against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.
