The Baltimore Ravens are trying to move forward after losing the 2024 AFC Championship to the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s a disappointing end for a team that was rated by analysts and fans as the top team to beat before the playoffs began.
However, there’s no direction left for the Ravens to move but onwards. For this reason, they have set a plan that will allow them to make a strong bid for the Lombardi trophy.
Baltimore Ravens outline plans for Justin Madubuike and Patrick Queen
One of the biggest areas Baltimore Ravens GM Eric DaCosta would focus on is the team’s defensive unit. Two of their top performers are set to hit free agency, and finding a way to keep them together or building a strong enough core that could handle the departure of either player is the top item of his offseason to-do list.
The two players that he’s looking to find a solution on are Josh Madubuike and Patrick Queen. Both were vital for the Ravens’ elite defense against most of the NFL. With their status up in the air, finding a favorable resolution to this problem is critical in keeping the Ravens competitive in the near future.
The Fresno Bee’s Adam Schultz writes:
“We’ll have all those decisions, I think made at some point coming soon, we don’t have a lot of time,” DeCosta said. “But we’ll have those decisions made in the coming weeks we’ll know what’s best for us to do, it’s something that we just haven’t just started thinking about it obviously. It’s something we’ve been thinking about I think Justin had a great year as did Patrick Queen, those two guys obviously you know Pro Bowlers great seasons, and we’ll have a good plan in place for those guys.”
Mudubuike was very effective from the trenches after he finished the season with a team-leading 13.0 sacks, 33 QB hits, and 12 tackles for loss. Meanwhile, Queen was an effective rusher with 3.5 sacks, 84 solo tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery for the Baltimore Ravens this season.
If the Baltimore Ravens somehow manage to keep both players and still have the cap room to operate in free agency, they can quickly retool and aim for another deep Super Bowl run in the next postseason.
