The Baltimore Ravens news heading into training camp has been quiet as the team is prepared to make a statement this season. However, they have lost some significant pieces this offseason on the defensive side of the football. The team decided to make a pounce and add a former All-Pro safety to their ranks as Adam Schefter is reporting that the Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a one-year deal with free agent safety Eddie Jackson.
Eddie Jackson was released by the Chicago Bears back in February and has surprisingly not been signed in more than five months. He appeared in 12 games last season with the team and finished with five pass deflections, one interception and 37 total tackles. Jackson will be entering his age-31 season and has not been a Pro Bowler since 2019 but still is a solid safety to add to the team.
The Baltimore Ravens news has been a bit lowkey but adding Eddie Jackson is a great signing. There is an old adage in sports that there is no such thing as a bad one-year contract and this gives Jackson a chance to show his worth on a Super Bowl contender.
Does this Baltimore Ravens news about signing Eddie Jackson change their upside in 2024?
Eddie Jackson has been a bit disappointing at this point of his career with the highs it seemed he would be able to play at, but he is still a good player. This Baltimore Ravens team has some solid safeties already with Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Williams, but getting a rotational safety like Jackson could really help the Baltimore Ravens going forward.
The Baltimore Ravens news has been exciting this offseason as adding running back Derrick Henry as a free agent makes the offense a lot more dynamic. However, the defense saw some key pieces leave and getting Eddie Jackson on a relatively team-friendly one-year contract is going to help the depth.
With guys like Justin Madubuike and Roquan Smith on this Ravens defense, they should be in contention for the top seed in the AFC this season with all of their talent throughout the three phases of football.
